Arizona - Phoenix Area
The Phoenix area is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. It is a sprawling metropolitan desert area that extends from trendy Scottsdale in the northeast, to Glendale and numerous expanding towns in the west. In the heart of the Greater Phoenix area is Tempe, an active university town. To the east lies the Mormon-founded city of Mesa. Desert mountains surround the area, creating “The Valley of the Sun."
For things to do, there are museums and cultural and social events to fit nearly every taste. Zoos, wildlife parks, botanical gardens, theaters and historic sites are very popular with tourists. At the area’s world-class hotels and resorts, there are fine restaurants, breath-taking golf courses and trendy shopping.
Residents enjoy more than 300 sunshine-filled days annually. The average annual rainfall is 7.66 inches. In the summer, temperatures above 100 degrees are common, though the low humidity makes the heat more tolerable. The cooler months are October to April, when warm sunny afternoons (mid 60’s to mid 80’s) turn to cool nights. Occasional rain and thunderstorms occur during the winter, but snow is extremely rare.
The Phoenix area attracts many seniors who come to enjoy the region’s world-class resorts, first-rate golf courses, great outdoors and professional sporting events.
