Florida - Central East
The Central East part of Florida encompasses a huge stretch of beach that is one of the most popular tourist and retiree destinations in America. These beautiful beaches offer some of the glitz and glamour of South Florida without the cost. They offer plenty of amenities, down-home charm and lots of oceanfront fun. Prices are more moderate than South Beach, but are rising quickly, as they are in many areas of Florida.
Speeding race cars and space shuttles are well-known attractions in Central East Florida. Other special attractions along this part of Florida are the 220 square-mile Merritt Island National Wildlife refuge near Cocoa and the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne. Also popular are the Center for the Arts Museum, McKee Botanical Gardens and Riverside Theater in Vero Beach. In Vero Beach, you can also catch the L.A. Dodgers’ spring training. The home base in the Major League Baseball Grapefruit Circuit for the N.Y. Mets is in nearby Port St. Lucie.
Small towns in this area are quiet and relatively unspoiled. Here, travelers can find a wealth of historical gems quietly awaiting discovery, just slightly off the beaten path. The Central East Florida area draws many family-oriented tourists and plenty of opportunities for retirees looking to re-locate or have a second home.
